Computational Skepticism - Definition
Posted May 21st, 2007 by BearTrying to work out a formal definition for "Computational Skepticism."
Computational Skepticism is using computer based methods to generate doubt and use it as a practical form of evidence to make decisions.
Why is doubt interesting?
To "prove" means to "establish beyond doubt." In empirical sciences nothing can be "proven" in the same way that they can in the theoretical sciences. The basis of empirical science is evidence not proof. We provisionally accept an idea not because it has been proven but because there is a lot of evidence for it.
