I'm Nik Bear Brown, also known as Professor Bear. I'm an Associate Teaching Professor at Northeastern University's College of Engineering specializing in AI and machine learning. My academic background includes a PhD in Computer Science from UCLA, with additional degrees in Finance, MBA, Information Design, and Biochemistry—giving me a uniquely interdisciplinary perspective.
At Northeastern, I lead several AI education initiatives, where we're integrating experiential AI into the learning experience. I've developed and taught over 20 courses in AI, machine learning, and programming across institutions like Northeastern, UCLA, and Harvard Medical School.
My research focuses on the intersection of AI, education, and computational biology, with publications in respected journals and conferences on topics like deep learning for the transcriptome and diffusion models.
I'm also the founder of Humanitarians AI, a nonprofit developing ethical AI solutions, and a mentor at AI Skunkworks, where I guide students in creating innovative AI projects.
My teaching philosophy centers on experiential learning—I believe in learning by doing, ethical AI development, and solving real-world problems through collaboration with industry and academics.
