Learn why one design source can feed web, mobile, and print without untracked guessing, and why the connection between Claude and Figma is about controlled propagation, not more AI. We follow one approved color through the copies that drift, the receipts that trace it, and the checks that earn release. Liam, in for Bear, narrates.

Your turn. Paste this into Claude: Help me trace one approved Figma token into one output. Record its source, value, mode, and retrieval date. Propose a test that fails when the output drifts. Do not invent missing values or change the source. Check: a deliberate mismatch fails. Check: the source and owner are recorded.
Evidence: real public Figma developer documentation captured 2026-10-08; archived local design experiments; newly executed local adapter checks. This is not a new authenticated Claude/Figma session. The adapter produces representation artifacts, not completed production apps or a validated physical print.

Opening
[0:00] Agentic Figma with Professor Bear. Why Claude plus Figma. Learn how one design source can feed web, mobile, and print without unttracked guessing. Hello, this is Liam in forbear. This series is about using Figma and Claude together. The point is not to put AI in every task. It is to preserve approved decisions when the design becomes something people actually use. Useful

The Cost of Drift
[0:36] Cost of drift. You design one course card in Figma. That card appears on a website, in a mobile app, and on a printed flyer. The design decision is made once without a data path. Implementation happens again in each place. Now, the approved color changes. Someone updates the website, but the app keeps the old value. The flyer uses a color sampled from a screenshot. Each artifact looks plausible together. They no longer express the same decision. The cost is not just drawing again. People search for the latest version, ask which value is correct, retype it, and check every destination. More destinations create more places to inspect. We have not measured a dollar saving here. Why not simply stay in Figma for deciding and reviewing the design? Do the extra machinery becomes useful when real outputs must consume those decisions. Figma is where design happens. It is not every website, app, or printing workflow. The goal is therefore not more AI. It is fewer unttracked interpretations between the approved design and its consumers. Replace repeated guessing with a traceable request, an explicit transformation, and a comparison that can catch disagreement. Own the decision. Start
Own the Decision
[1:44] With actual values, not a picture of values. This saved Figma response names a primary color and a surface color. The reusable name tells us what the value means. A sampled pixel cannot carry that whole contract. There is a useful local comparison. For one card, the screenshot only build matched four of 27 measured properties exactly. Adding saved MCP context matched 26. One run per condition is evidence for this example, not a universal guarantee. Provenence means we can trace the extracted value back to its source. Record which design item supplied it when the response was saved and the response hash. A hash identifies those exact bytes. It does not prove the design was good. One source of truth means one accountable owner per field. Let Figma own approved design values. Let the content system own live course text and the database own operational records. Link those sources. Do not make three competing copies authoritative. The source must be ready to deserve that authority. Name the tokens, define component intent, identify the approved mode, and resolve conflicting versions. Claude cannot determine which unnamed blue is official merely because it has access to the file. Carry le the roles are different.
Carry the Data
[2:57] An API lets code request structured data repeatedly. MCP makes design tools available to a compatible agent. Claude can adapt retrieved context to your codebase. None of these replaces the person deciding what the design should mean. Figma documents its own MCP server for bringing design context into compatible tools. This is the bridge from the design environment to the agent. We are showing the public documentation not claiming a fresh authenticated design session in this film. Then use platform adapters. Web needs CSS or framework tokens. Mobile needs its own representation. Print needs dimensions and a color-managed workflow. Preserve the approved meaning. Do not pretend identical hex text alone proves identical physical printed color. Here is a small execution, not an imagined success. A local adapter reads the archived Figma values. The stale consumer fails. Rebuilding three representations passes the value checks. A missing value is rejected. Print profile conversion remains explicitly untested. Keep a receipt beside the outputs. This shorten hash identifies the exact saved response shared by the adapters. The full hash and output hashes remain on disk. This proves our small representations share those input bytes, not that a complete app is correct. Verify the result. A successful

[4:16] Request is a snapshot, not an automatic synchronization service. After an approved design change, read again, rebuild, and compare again. A connected MCP server does not by itself notify or regenerate every website, mobile app, and flyer. Structured data is valuable, but it is not enough. In that same card comparison, the contextass assisted build still made a button 312 pixels wide against a 129 pixel source. layout needed its own visual check. Another experiment copied all 18 mode values exactly into CSS. Yet a selector affected the wrong button and a poor source color combination stayed poor. Faithful data can coexist with faulty behavior and accessibility. Those are separate responsibilities. Put a gate between generation and release. Compare named values. Render the output. Test interactions and accessibility. And ask the owner about intentional differences. Reading a design does not authorize an agent to deploy changes or overwrite the original file. Start small, one approved token and one real consumer. Record its origin, change the token deliberately, and make the consumer check fail before rebuilding. When the check passes afterward, you can explain why this workflow exists. Controlled propagation, not persuasive guessing. Let's recap
